Prerequsite to instructor lead courses

Prerequisite (to instructor lead training) RAWS and WXx Weather courses are available through DOI Talent, course number DOIU-7203-OLT-BLM. In DOI Talent, perform a search in "Wildland Fire Introductory Guides". This course contains overview guides for both RAWS and WXx Weather learning materials.

  • The course and materials presented are a prerequisite for RAWS instructor lead training
  • The course materials may be used as a refresher supplemental for those who may have already received RAWS instructor lead training

Non-DOI employees can still access the training but they have to be given access to DOI Talent first. Use the link below to request access.

  • This overview course guide is not intended to be used as a certification method for working on RAWS equipment in the field. To receive official certification please register for the instructor lead course on the Wildland Fire Training Site (see link below)

Instructor Lead RAWS Training

The RSFWSU provides syllabus, curriculum, training aids, and instructors for the RAWS maintenance training courses. These courses are offered six times annually and scheduled by the Geographic Area Training Representatives (GATR). This training is principally for customers who maintain their stations via RSFWSU Depot Service or Portable Return contract options.

PLEASE NOTE: All training applications and nomination packages must be submitted through your local area GATR. The RSFWSU office does not accept or process any training requests.

WXx-Weather - Maintenance User Access Request Form 

Allows the user to order weather sensors for annual maintenance and complete post trip updates in accordance with NFDRS within the WXx Weather system.

Station Maintenance Form

This is a printable form designed for the field tech to keep track of station maintenance for posting later to WXx Weather narrative.

WXx Weather Station Set-Up Form

This form is used to request a station build within WXx Weather once a new RAWS is purchased from a vendor. This form must be completed and sent to the RAWS Help Desk in order for a NESDIS ID, transmit time, and transmit channel to be submitted to the vendor for programming purposes.

Station Update Form

Use this form to update station information and changes to a RAWS station. This form is also used to create a WXx Weather preventive maintenance schedule and a list of a parts/sensors that can be ordered through the RSFWSU Depot. This form must be filled out completely and as accurately as possible. ANY FORM WITH MISSING OR INACCURATE INFORMATION WILL BE RETURNED which will delay updating the station record in WXx Weather.

NOTE: For customers changing over to an FTS F6 station please refer to the station packing list to find the information necessary to complete the Station Update Form

Portable RAWS Shipping Label Request Form - link to online digital form

This form is used to request return shipping labels for portable RAWS that are on a Portable Return contract with the RAWS Depot. Complete the form and send as an attachment to BLM_FA_RAWSSHIPPING@BLM.GOV. Once processed, you will receive an email with printable shipping labels.
